Montrose
“DREAMY TO CREATIVE OFFBEAT”
Many Houstonians believe that Montrose is no longer as hip and LGBTQ as it once was. Despite the addition of new mainstream shops and cafes, Montrose retains its distinctively quirky and LGBTQ-friendly feel. Montrose retains its distinct identity despite its abundance of top art galleries, artsy dining and drinking establishments. From garage apartments to restored mansions, historic duplexes to new condos, Montrose's housing stock is diverse. Any character will find a home in Montrose. Montrose is renowned for its hipster culture, art scene, food scene, and nightlife, and is one of Houston's main cultural districts. It was the LGBTQ community's epicenter in the 1980s. The neighborhood, which was established in 1911, is a diverse demographic of restored mansions, bungalows with large porches, and cottages nestled along tree-lined boulevards. In 2009, it was called one of America's "ten great communities."
