Many Mandarin immigrants from Downtown Houston relocated to the former Houston Chinatown, then a part of the Third Ward district, in the 1930s in search of more affordable property. The Mandarin established a number of businesses, including grocery stores and restaurants, and celebrated Chinese New Year. East End is home to Magnolia Park and Second Ward, two of the state's oldest Latino communities, as well as a diverse mix of races. The great mix of culture and cuisine in the city, which helps to attract new residents. The majority of East End homes are designed in 20th century styles such as Craftsman and Mission, but there are also plenty of contemporary homes being built in the neighborhood. The Houston Dynamo and the Texas Southern University football team play at BBVA Compass Stadium, which is located in East Downtown and is bordered by Texas, Walker, Dowling, and Hutchins.
